Hungarian winery owned by Vega Sicilia. It comes from vineyards listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is aged in centuries-old underground galleries.
With the intention of recovering one of the most prestigious wine-growing areas in the world, in 1993 the Álvarez family, owner of Vega Sicilia, founded the Tokaj Oremus winery. To do this, they build using the underground galleries built in the 13th century and follow the meticulous production method developed more than 400 years ago. As a result, an excellent range of wines are born, considered some of the best in the world.
In the winery, the same processes are followed as 400 years ago for the production of Tokaji Oremus Aszú 5 Puttonyos. First, to the must that fits in a 136-liter Hungarian oak barrel ("de Gonc"), 5 puttons or 25-kilo baskets with grapes affected by bortristis are added. Two days later it is gently pressed and a slow fermentation begins that can last up to two months. Afterwards, the wine is placed in a wooden barrel with drops of Aszú berry essence and remains there for about 2 years. Finally, it rests in the bottle for another year.
Taking into account that the number of puttonyos marks the sweetness of this noble wine, Tokaji Oremus Aszú 5 Puttonyos is considered the intermediate of the majestic Tokaji range. A wine with sweet and noble tears worthy of admiration.
