Ateca is named after the town in Zaragoza where it is located, just 16 kilometers from Calatayud, the capital of the region.
The grapes come from old Garnacha vineyards situated on hills at altitudes ranging from 700 to 1,000 meters. These vineyards are primarily planted in soils made of clay rocks and gravels. The wine achieves great complexity after spending 12 months in French oak barrels.
With a cherry-red color, it presents intense aromas of ripe red fruit (raspberry) with slight toasty and spicy hints of cocoa and licorice, resulting from its noble aging process. The mouthfeel is powerful and full-bodied, with a very fresh and fruity passage, rich in flavor and complexity, mineral in character, and a remarkable finish where the fruity and spicy aromas reappear on the retro-nasal. A magnificent expression of an elegant Aragón Garnacha with very mature tannins.
