This wine is made from a blend of Syrah and Merlot, two of the 15 varieties grown in the Somontano DO. It is crafted by Bodegas Laus, located in Barbastro, Huesca, in the northeastern part of Spain.
The winery’s 100 hectares of vineyards are spread across different areas of the Somontano DO, situated at the foot of the Pyrenees. The soils here are varied, composed of calcareous and gypsum textures, providing an ideal environment for the growth of both indigenous and French grape varieties. The family Lalanne introduced some of these French varieties in the early 20th century as a response to the Phylloxera crisis. Since then, these varieties, including Merlot and Syrah, have flourished in this unique terroir, cultivated at altitudes between 350 and 400 meters, reaching perfect ripeness despite the poor fertility of the soils.
In Bodegas Laus, the Syrah and Merlot grapes are cultivated in what is considered the winery’s ‘natural garden’, allowing the wine to express the perfect balance of the terroir.
