The grapes used come from plots of very old vines, ranging from 50 to 90 years old. These have low yields, which results in fruit of exceptional quality. The vineyards where Pétalos del Bierzo originates are primarily planted on slate soils and located on slopes. The harvest is done manually, with the first selection taking place in the vineyard itself.
Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are de-stemmed and fermented for about 25 days in wooden vats and open stainless steel tanks. A malolactic fermentation is then carried out for two months in wooden vats and closed stainless steel tanks. Afterward, Pétalos del Bierzo ages for 10 months in French oak barrels, and before being bottled, it is filtered and clarified.
It is worth noting the great prestige of Pétalos del Bierzo, as in the 2015 vintage, it was recognized by Robert Parker as the Spanish wine with the best quality-price ratio.
Descendientes de J. Palacios is owned by Ricardo Pérez Palacios, nephew of the prestigious winemaker Álvaro Palacios, known for his great work in the DOQ Priorat, and who collaborates with the family winery.
Intense cherry red color. Powerful aromas of fruit, cherry, and blackberries with floral notes. On the palate, it is fresh and light, with body, smooth, complementing the flavor and persistence of its intense aroma.
