Matallana is the result of eleven completely different plots of land. Although the vineyards are crossed out on the bottle label due to protective regulations, they show the true character of Ribera del Duero.
Telmo Rodríguez, a multifaceted winemaker who crafts wines in various regions of Spain, aims to capture the essence of each place. In this case, he has revived the winemaking tradition in the best terms of Ribera del Duero, cultivating wonderful small holdings spread across 5 villages and 11 areas.
Thus, Matallana comes from an interesting mosaic of different soils: clayey, feldspar red, petrocalcic, terraces of marl, conglomerates, and sandstones. These vineyards have been recovered organically, with organic treatments and without the use of chemicals, and the harvest is done manually in small boxes.
